Leipzig Zoological Garden

Leipzig Zoological Garden

In the German city of Leipzig stands the Leipzig Zoological Garden, also known as the Leipzig Zoo. The first day it was open was June 9, 1878. Approximately 850 species can be found there, and it was acquired by the city of Leipzig in 1920.  By 2020, the zoo had six separate theme worlds, with the goal of producing environments suitable for the species on show.

Leipzig Zoological Garden, also known as the "Zoo," has been home to more than 2,000 lions, 250 rare Siberian tigers, and other carnivores like bears. Its large construction projects include Pongoland (which houses gorillas, chimpanzees, bonobos, and orangutans) and Gondwanaland, the second-largest indoor rain forest hall in the world at 1.65 ha or 4.1 acres.

family outing
Numerous playgrounds, picnic places, and different gastronomic options are just a few of the features that are family-friendly. All areas of the zoo, excluding Gondwanaland, are accessible by strollers and carts. There are many opportunities to pet and pet near animals like goats. Children under 6 are admitted free. If you want to be sure to be there for feeding time, you can check online to see what time the different animals will be fed. Parking is available across the street, which is convenient, but the hourly costs reflect the zoo's location in the city. The zoo is not accessible to dogs.

Themed universes
The Founder's Garden, Gondwanaland, Asia, Pongoland, Africa, and South America are just a few of the six themed areas that the Zoo Leipzig offers. The goal of zoo director Prof. Dr. Jörg Junhold is to combine species protection with large enclosures that are as appropriate as possible for the animals kept there. The zoo also hosts a variety of special events and educational excursions for guest groups.

President's Garden
The Founder's Garden is close to the entrance and is partially housed in old structures. This area of the zoo, in addition to the Explorer's Arch, has exhibits for koalas, golden lion tamarind, coppery ti ti monkeys, and bearded emperor tamarind, some of which are housed in the previous Monkey House's facilities before Pogo land was built there in 2001.
