Elmwood Park Zoo

Elmwood Park Zoo

Elmwood Park Zoo, located in Norristown, Pennsylvania, is a zoo.

History
The zoo first opened its doors in 1924, when a private landowner donated a small plot of land and a few white-tailed deer to the borough of Norristown. As time passed, improvements to the animals' living conditions became necessary. The first change was the design of the cages, which transitioned from wire, which was the norm in the early twentieth century, to realistic habitats. The first animals displayed were from North and South America. The Norristown Zoological Society provided the majority of the funds for the zoo. In 1985, the NZS was granted non-profit status and took over ownership of Elmwood Park Zoo from the city of Norristown. The first major operation was the park's expansion, which was completed in 2002, and the park's size was doubled from its original 8-acre size.

Elm wood Park Zoo added more offices and shops between 1999 and 2002 to help regulate the business flow. The interactive playground, which was built in 2001, is the most popular attraction at the EPZ. A year later, it had expanded to include more common canines as well as rare weasels, including the endangered black-footed ferret. The Oberkircher Discovery Center, an educational facility, was completed the same year at this zoo. Since major renovations to the park over the years, the park now receives over 500,000 visitors per year. Despite progressing old structures, the zoo still has historical landmarks on display.

American Zookeepers Association (AAZK)
The American Association of Zoo Keepers (AAZK) at the Elm wood Park Zoo is a non-profit organisation comprised of zoo professionals .

Animal species
The zoo is home to a wide range of animals. It has two types of animals: those on display and those kept for educational purposes. The animals on display include amphibians, birds, fish, mammals, and reptiles. Birds, mammals, reptiles, and invertebrates are among the animals used by the zoo for public education. The zoo also acquires animals for the various seasons. Red pandas, bison, zebras, giraffes, jaguars, otters, and "Penny" the American alligator are among the animals on display. Noah, a North American bald eagle, lives at the zoo. Noah was born in the summer of 2001. He stands 3 feet tall, has a 7-foot wing span, and weighs 7 pounds. Noah was 8 weeks old when he fell 80 feet and suffered head injuries. He had to spend the first year of his life in an animal hospital recovering. Noah was able to recover from his injuries but was deemed unfit to return to the wild. He is now used for educational purposes in a rehabilitation center to assist humans with outreach programmers. Noah was adopted and given all of his rights by Elm wood Park Zoo in 2008. He has been designated as a zoo ambassador, and he helps teach people of all ages about wildlife conservation outreach programmers. Furthermore, Noah is the mascot for the Philadelphia Eagles, a professional football team.
