George Hunter, who inherited the Coca-Cola empire from his uncle Benjamin Thomas, is honored with the Hunter Museum. [2] Thomas was one of the visionaries behind the Coca-Cola Chattanooga empire. Their nephew, George Hunter, later joined Thomas in establishing the Ben wood Foundation in Hunter's memory. This foundation's mission was to "promote religious, charitable, scientific, literary, and educational activities for the advancement or prosperity of humanity." The Hunter Museum of American Art, formerly known as the Ross Faxon House, is the centerpiece of the Benwood Foundation's gifts to the Chattanooga community.
