Audubon Zoo
The Audubon Zoo (Audubon Park And Zoological Garden) is a zoo in New Orleans, Louisiana, United States. Located in Audubon Park, near Tulane and Loyola Universities. The garden was named after John James Audubon, an ornithologist.
Synopsis
The park opened in 1884, using facilities from the World's Fair in New Orleans. It has grown to be one of the largest zoos in the United States, with an area of 23 hectares and over 2,000 animals on display, including insects and marine life.
Incident
On the morning of July 14, 2018, a jaguar escaped from the park's exhibition space. There was no panic or human damage because it happened before the park opened, but six animals, including alpacas, were attacked. It resumed operations on the 15th after the jaguar was recovered and returned to the exhibition space on the same day.
