This region is located between the Pacific and Atlantic oceans, with Canada to the north and Mexico to the south. Alaska The state is situated in the continent's northwestern corner, west of Canada, across the Bering Strait, and east of Russia. The Hawaiian Islands are an archipelago in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. Apart from these, it has a large number of holdings in the Caribbean and the Pacific.
The story behind the name
The name America is derived from the Italian explorer and cartographer Amerigo Vespucci. It was Vespucci who corrected Columbus and led expeditions proving that the American continent was not in Asia's east. In memory of Vespucci, the German cartographer Martin Waldseemüller named the Western Hemisphere's regions the Americas on a world map in 1507 . The Latin form of the name Amerigo Vespucci is Americas Vespuccius. When translated from the feminine form of Latin, America corresponds to Asia, Europe, and Africa. The Italian name Amerigo is derived from the Gothic word Amalric, which means "King of the Amals."
History Prehistoric times
America has a long history of immigration. This migration history dates back ten to forty thousand years . Aborigines ("Red Indians") migrated to America via the Bering Strait from Asia. Then, for thousands of years, non-human societies lived without knowing about the Americas, developing their own cultural traits. When the Europeans arrived, there were about a million people. With the European migration, the history of this people, who had been hidden from the rest of the world, changed. The deadly diseases brought by European settlers killed them. Native Americans' autonomy is now limited to a few areas (Indian Reservations) under the American government. There are now 2.9 million Native Americans and 2.3 million people in the United States.
Extension
More territories were admitted as states during the nineteenth century. More areas were carved out of the 13 original eastern states as the population grew due to migration. The majority of America's original people, the American Indians, lived in the Southwest. The majority of them, estimated to number around three crores, died as a result of infectious diseases brought by European immigration. The new "United States" carved out the remaining territories. Most American Indian territories had been depopulated by the end of the nineteenth century. Native Americans (American Indians) were reduced to a minority. From east to west, the United States claimed the majority of the North American continent.
