Lehigh Valley Zoo
The Lehigh Valley Zoo is a 19-acre (11.7 ha) zoo located in the 1,100-acre (445 ha) Traxler Nature Preserve in Schnecksville, Pennsylvania. The zoo is open throughout the year. The American Association of Zoos and Aquariums has accredited the Lehigh Valley Zoo since March 2006. (AZA).
History
In 1906, Harry Clay Trexler began purchasing farms in Lowhill and North Whitehall counties of Pennsylvania in order to establish a reservation to help protect bison, elk, and white-tailed deer. Before his death, he purchased 36 farms totaling 1,105 acres (448 hectares), which he left to Lehigh County. The Trexler Nature Preserve was established in 1935. The park's children's zoo began construction in 1974. The zoo's programme included feeding demonstrations and the opportunity to pet exotic animals from Africa, Asia, and Australia when it first opened. The entire reserve was opened to the public in 2004, after the original goal of saving native species was achieved. At the same time, the Lehigh Valley Zoological Society was established.
Description
The zoo is situated at a bend in Jordan Creek. There is a parking lot along the garden that can be reached via the reserve's access roads. In 2019, the area was home to 130 different animal species, for a total of 340. These include the Mexican wolf, porcupine, saber-horned simian, Maasai giraffe, snowy owl, llamas, kangaroos, and zebras, among others. Bison and elk, the species for which the reserve was originally established, can only be seen outside the zoo in their natural habitats. Every year, approximately 200,000 people visit the campus. There are traditional services such as a souvenir shop, restaurants, and toilets in the area,You can also visit the amphitheater or an animal exhibit exhibition. The zoo hosts a variety of social events, such as Breakfast with the Animals, Independence Day celebrations, and the National Week of Breeder Recognition. It is possible to sleep in the zoo and take a night tour, a portion of the area can be rented for family and business events, birthday programmers, and educational programmers, including school programmer, are also available.Volunteers play an important role in the organisation, for example, during social events, grounds maintenance, or marketing. Zoo members have access to year-round free admission, Monday early admissions, and other benefits.
