Dallas Museum of Art

The Dallas Museum of Art is located in downtown Dallas, Texas, in the Arts District. The museum relocated from its previous location in Beautiful Park to the Dallas Arts District in 1984. Edward Larrabee Barnes, winner of the 2007 American Institute of Architects Gold Medal , designed the new pavilion. The Dallas Museum of Art houses a collection of over 24,000 works of art dating from 3000 BC to the present day. The museum is also known for its adaptable exhibition policy  and its highly regarded educational programme. The Mildred R. and M. Mayer Library (a non-circulating research library within the museum) houses 50,000 books for museum visitors and the general public to read.

history
The Dallas Museum of Art was founded in 1903 by the Dallas Art Association to hold exhibitions in the Dallas Public Library. Frank Reaugh, a Texas artist, saw an opportunity to hold an art exhibition in the newly built library. May Dickson Exall, the first director of the Dallas Public Library, immediately supported the idea. "Provide artistic interest and education through exhibitions and lectures; establish a permanent collection; support local artists; seek support for the arts from individuals and businesses; and honor citizens who support the arts," she says. As a result, the museum's collection gradually grew, and it became increasingly difficult to find long-term homes for more and more works of art. In 1932,

Collection
The Dallas Museum of Art  has over 24,000 works of art from all over the world, dating from ancient to modern times, each of which is a testament to and celebration of human creativity. The Dallas Museum of Art's collection of ancient Mediterranean art includes treasures from the Cyclades, ancient Egypt, ancient Greece, Etruria, and Apulia. The limestone relief "Consolation of the Consecrated Procession" excavated from the tomb of Ny-Ank-Nesut between 2575 and 2134 BC is one of the highlights of ancient Egyptian art. A more extensive collection of Greek treasures dates from 300 BC and includes marble tombs of men, bronze figures, ornaments, and gold ornaments. Figures of women from the second century AD and a high-relief marble coffin with scenes of war from 190 AD are examples of ancient Roman art.
