Carnegie Museum of Art

Carnegie Museum of Art
The Museum's Background
Our Purpose
The Carnegie Museum of Art creates experiences that bring people closer to art, ideas, and one another. The museum is dedicated to global and regional advancement. With experiences that welcome, inspire, challenge, and inform, we champion creativity and its importance in society. Our core activities—collecting, conserving, presenting, and interpreting works of art—allow us to provide those opportunities. Our over 34,000-piece collection focuses on art, architecture, photography, and design from the nineteenth century to the present. Furthermore, the museum houses a collection of over 70,000 images by Pittsburgh photographer Charles "Teenier" Harris, whose work is one of the most detailed and intimate records of Black life in America. Carnegie Museum of Art frequently investigates the human condition through its programming, exhibitions, and publications., the Carnegie Museum of Art frequently investigates the role of art and artists in confronting critical social issues of our time, combining and juxtaposing local and global perspectives.
